Marriage Encounter: More Than 50 Years of Strengthening Relationships and Restoring Hope

Marriage Encounter: More Than 50 Years of Strengthening Relationships and Restoring Hope

For more than five decades, Marriage Encounter has helped couples reconnect, strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and discover that even difficult seasons can lead to renewed hope and lasting love.

For more than fifty years, Marriage Encounter has been serving, celebrating, and helping restore marriages for couples throughout Minnesota, neighboring states, and beyond. Since 1972, Marriage Encounter has walked alongside couples who desire something more for their relationship, family life, and future together.

Originally created as a gift for healthy marriages, the weekends began to evolve during the late 1970s as more couples attended while facing real challenges including communication struggles, emotional distance, hurts, and uncertainty within their relationships. Today, some couples attend simply to strengthen an already healthy marriage, while others arrive carrying heavier burdens and wondering where to turn next.

What many couples discover is that they truly have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Marriage Is Not About Perfection

Marriage Encounter is not about pretending a marriage is perfect. It is about creating intentional time together to communicate honestly, listen more deeply, rebuild trust, and reconnect emotionally and spiritually.

Time and again, couples leave saying they feel renewed, hopeful, and better equipped to move forward together. Many describe finally discussing topics they had avoided for years, identifying long-standing challenges within their relationship, or rediscovering affection and friendship they thought had disappeared.

Others speak about learning practical communication tools, experiencing meaningful forgiveness, and finding reassurance that their spouse remains committed to the relationship and future they are building together.

Stronger Marriages Strengthen Families

The impact of Marriage Encounter extends far beyond one weekend.

Stronger marriages create stronger families, healthier relationships, and more connected communities. Couples often describe the experience as a gift that continues giving for generations. One couple shared that they “began to like each other again,” while another described their marriage as “renewed and revived.”

Many speak about feeling closer physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Others express gratitude for the openness and transparency of the presenting couples whose experiences made it easier for them to share honestly themselves.

Hope Continues One Couple at a Time

The stories shared after every Marriage Encounter weekend continue to serve as powerful reminders that hope can grow even in difficult places. Couples consistently describe improved communication, deeper understanding, renewed intimacy, forgiveness, and a stronger sense of purpose within their marriage.

Some even leave inspired to help other couples through the ministry themselves.

Marriage Encounter continues to provide a place where couples can step away from daily distractions, focus intentionally on one another, and rediscover the strength and grace available within their relationship and through God’s presence in their lives.

Is God Calling You Back to Marriage Encounter?

Is God Calling You Back to Marriage Encounter?

Try to remember your original Marriage Encounter weekend. What feeling rises up in your heart?

Was it peace… hope… a deeper sense of love and commitment?

Was it simply a weekend you attended, or was it an experience you felt called to be part of?

So many couples walk away changed, touched by grace in ways they never expected. While not everyone feels called to become involved right away, that invitation does not disappear. It remains gently waiting.

For some, the call to serve comes immediately. For others, it unfolds slowly over time.

Whenever that stirring returns to your heart, know this: it is never too late to respond. God works in His time, and when you feel that nudge again, it may be His way of inviting you to share the gift you once received.

Our community of Team Couples who serve as facilitators for Marriage Encounter would welcome you with open arms and joyful hearts.

Serving in this way is more than helping others. It is also a gift you give to your own marriage. Even if you choose to serve just once a year, the grace you experience, the connection you deepen, and the love you rediscover can be truly profound.

The process itself is simple, enriching, and non-threatening. You are never alone in it. God works through each couple in a unique way, using your story, your love, your challenges, and your willingness to bless others.

If you feel even the slightest nudge in your heart, it may be an invitation worth exploring.

Please call Mary at 651.454.3238 or email mary@marriages.org.

She would love to talk with you.

A Christmas Gift That Strengthens Marriages for a Lifetime

A Christmas Gift That Strengthens Marriages for a Lifetime

Marriage and Engaged Encounter continues to thrive, thanks be to God.

We are blessed with strong attendance, generous donors, and a community that believes deeply in the power of marriage. This season invites us to reflect on goodwill, joy, love, and giving with open hearts.

While our ministry is financially stable today, we also recognize how quickly circumstances can change, both for our program and for the couples who need it most. That is why your continued generosity matters.

Most donated funds go directly to our Scholarship Fund, which helps cover the full cost of a Marriage Encounter weekend. In 2026, that cost is $425 per couple. Scholarships may also provide partial assistance for couples who are facing financial hardship. Your gift helps ensure that no couple is turned away because of cost.

We invite you to think back on your own Marriage Encounter experience. Remember the love, hope, healing, and renewal you felt. Your donation makes it possible for another couple to experience that same transformation.

Reflections from a recent weekend clearly show how powerful this ministry continues to be. Couples shared how meaningful it was to step away from daily distractions and find the space to truly talk. Many learned tools to heal conflict, rediscovered emotional connection, and experienced God’s presence in a deeply authentic way. Some arrived feeling stuck, disconnected, or overwhelmed, and left with renewed commitment, deeper understanding, and real hope for their future together, living out their promise of “until death do we part.”

If you feel called to help another couple experience this renewal, please consider donating to our Scholarship Fund: Click here to donate

Your generosity is an investment in marriages, families, and lives changed for the better. It is truly a gift that keeps giving for generations to come.

If you are unsure what amount to give, we offer $50 and $100 gift certificates, or you may choose to sponsor the full cost of a weekend.
We thank you for your continued prayers, support, and open hearts.

A blessed and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Creating Peace at Home When the World Feels Chaotic

Creating Peace at Home When the World Feels Chaotic

How to Keep Unity in Your Home During Challenging Times

The world around us can feel overwhelming at times. It can be loud, chaotic, and full of division. It is a meaningful and timely thought to consider how we respond to all of that. Beautiful may not be the perfect word because it does not feel beautiful when our opinions differ on important topics. If we are not careful, that noise and hostility can slip into our homes and plant seeds of tension where love and unity should grow. A home can be a sanctuary, not because conflict never happens, but because we choose to handle it with grace and respect.

The Noise of the World Can Sneak Into Our Homes

Differences of opinion are natural and sometimes even healthy when handled the right way. The goal is never to erase those differences, but to make sure they do not overshadow the commitment to peace and understanding that a strong marriage or family deserves.

Differences Do Not Need to Divide a Marriage

A connected marriage can weather disagreement without letting it turn into disconnection, division, or emotional distance. When a couple is intentional about how they communicate, even difficult topics can become opportunities for deeper understanding.

What a Peaceful Home Really Looks Like

A peaceful home is not one without hard conversations. It is one where those conversations happen with listening ears, soft voices, and open hearts. It is the choice to value the relationship more than the argument. A person is always more valuable than their opinions or perspectives.

Choosing Love When Conversations Get Hard

When love leads the way, even heated topics can shift into moments of growth and renewed closeness. Couples who practice patience and respect create space for each other to feel safe, seen, and supported.

Protecting the Sanctuary You Build Together

When the world outside feels messy, loud, or uncertain, home can remain a place of warmth, respect, and calm. It begins with a shared desire to protect that peace side by side.

Keep the Flame Alive: Rekindling Love Through Marriage Encounter

Keep the Flame Alive: Rekindling Love Through Marriage Encounter

Reflecting on Your Marriage Encounter Experience
In these freezing days of January, let’s turn our thoughts to spring. On that journey to spring, we land on February, the month of love. Reflecting on your Marriage Encounter, think about how you felt when you arrived and the emotions you carried home. Were you able to keep the flame of that new discovery of your spouse alive? Were the commitments you made over the weekend sustained?

The Challenge: Keeping the Flame Alive
Memories of your Marriage Encounter weekend may bring to mind the deep emotional journey you experienced. Many couples arrive feeling disconnected, weighed down by life’s stresses. However, through meaningful dialogue and shared vulnerability, new levels of intimacy and understanding emerge. By the time couples return home, they may feel excitement and hope, but also apprehension about maintaining the momentum of their discoveries.

Keeping the flame alive requires consistent effort: regular communication, affirming actions, and recommitting to the love and goals set during the weekend. The true value of Marriage Encounter is not just in the weekend itself but in how those commitments are implemented in daily life.

Making Your Marriage Encounter Commitments Last
The commitments made during Marriage Encounter often focus on better communication, intentional acts of kindness, and prioritizing the relationship. Consistency is key. By creating habits to nurture the bond deepened during the weekend, couples can maintain and even grow the love they rediscovered.

Help Others Experience the Transformation
MN Marriage Encounter provides scholarships—full or partial—to ensure financial barriers don’t prevent couples from experiencing this transformative journey. These scholarships allow couples who might not afford the weekend to achieve the same renewal and growth.

How You Can Give Back This Valentine’s Day
Marriage Encounter is encouraging YOU to donate to our Scholarship Fund, culminating on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Between the two of you and God, determine what you can give. Your gift will enable other couples to embark on this life-changing experience. Please give your gift of LOVE today by clicking here to donate.
